Official climate change information is distorted and delayed through powerful corporate lobbying (read the book Heat by George Monbiot). Actual consequences may be nearer and more devastating than officially predicted. This website focuses on only one climate tipping point (it only takes one…) – the precarious 400 gigatons of methane hydrates (clathrates) frozen under the Arctic tundra – a ticking time bomb. As increased CO2 causes earth’s average temperature to rise 2 degrees Centigrade above pre-industrial, the Arctic warms much faster because melting snow reveals dark colored earth that absorbs heat more quickly. If only 6 of the 400 gigatons of methane bubble out from under the tundra, a tipping point is passed. Then we slide into a spiral of hotter and hotter temperatures. This already happened 55 million years ago when a series of volcanoes released greenhouse gases equivalent to our present output. That time it took 100,000 years for the earth to again support life. When it comes to global warming, saying “we must act” or “government must regulate,” only avoids the realization that there is no “we” in responsibility. Only one person takes responsible action: I do. And the action comes directly out of awareness of consequences. This website spreads awareness of consequences, because the people who are least aware are the people busily causing the greatest consequences. A radically responsible person takes action when it is appropriate, not when government regulation or rising sea level forces them to. www.just-stop.org is me taking action to share what I am learning about what is really going on.

Are you looking for a quiet place to read Radiant Joy Brilliant Love? There is a secret summer hideaway in the midst of the Austrian Alps, far away from traffic noise, perfect for reading. Like Heidi's hut, the 150 year old Präau Alm is tucked at 1800 meters into the side of an iridescent green mountainside, sparkling with wildflowers and herbes. The place is so cut off from civilization that they have no electricity - except a generator to milk the 13 cows twice a day! Guests are known to read from Radiant Joy Brilliant Love out loud around the kitchen table, while Monika and Seppi hand make cheese, cream, butter, yogurt, and the best strudel this side of Kathmandu, baked in a wood-fired oven. Needless to say, lively conversations accompany the reading, with plenty of time for introspection and honest sharing, especially in stormy weather.
